Indian boxer Nikhat Zareen was defeated 5-0 by Wu Yu of China in the women’s 50kg round of 16 match at the Paris 2024 Olympics. The loss marks the end of Zareen’s maiden Olympic campaign.
Wu Yu, the reigning 52kg world champion and Asian Games gold medallist, showcased her dominance throughout the bout. She began strongly in the first round, establishing her control early on. Despite Zareen’s efforts to mount a comeback in the second round, Wu Yu managed to edge out the round with her superior technique and precision.
The third round was decisively won by Wu Yu, further demonstrating her skill and control in the ring. Zareen, a two-time world champion, struggled to turn the tide against her formidable opponent, leading to her exit from the tournament.
Earlier in the competition, Zareen had secured a victory in the round of 32, defeating Germany’s Maxi Carina Kloetzer by unanimous decision at Arena Paris Nord.
