Despite being labeled a 'biological male,' Imane Khelif only addressed the issue after winning the gold medal at the Paris Games.

Despite being labeled a ‘biological male,’ Algerian boxer Imane Khelif secured a gold medal for her country at the recent Paris Olympics. Throughout the games, questions about her gender were raised each time she won a bout, but this did not deter her focus on the competition.
On Wednesday, Khelif filed a complaint with a special unit in the Paris prosecutor’s office dedicated to combating online hate she received during the Olympics. Her lawyer, Nabil Boudi, described the attacks as “misogynist, racist, and sexist.” Notably, both Elon Musk and J.K. Rowling referred to Khelif as a “male,” with Rowling suggesting that Khelif was “enjoying the distress of a woman” after her victory over Italy’s Angela Carini.
“Now the whole world knows the story of Imane Khelif,” said the boxer. “It’s a dream for every athlete. Whether I qualify or not, or if I’m a woman or not, I’ve made many statements in the media. I’m fully qualified, I’m a woman, I was born a woman, and I’ve lived as a woman—there’s no doubt about that.”
She added, “Those who claim otherwise are the enemies of success. Their attacks make my success even more meaningful. I hope people will adhere to the Olympic Charter and its values. We are here to perform for our audience and families, and I hope we won’t see similar attacks in the future.”
