Vinesh Phogat Bids Farewell to Wrestling After Paris 2024 Olympics Heartbreak:In a heartbreaking turn of events following the Paris 2024 Olympics, Vinesh Phogat has announced her retirement from wrestling. On Tuesday, Vinesh made history by reaching the final of the women’s 50kg weight category, having defeated formidable opponents such as Japan’s defending Olympic champion Yui Susaki, Ukraine’s former European champion Oksana Livach, and Cuba’s reigning Pan American Games champion Yusneylis Guzman.

Vinesh was on the cusp of becoming the first Indian woman to compete in an Olympic wrestling final. However, her dream was dashed when she failed to make weight on the morning of her gold medal match against Sarah Hildebrandt of the USA. Despite her best efforts, including drastic measures to cut weight, Vinesh was found marginally overweight during the mandatory weigh-in and was disqualified.

The situation led to Vinesh being rushed to a polyclinic in the Olympic Village due to dehydration caused by extreme food and fluid restrictions in her weight-cutting attempt.

With a heavy heart and turning 30 later this month, Vinesh took to social media to announce her retirement from the sport. Her departure marks the end of an illustrious career filled with both remarkable achievements and poignant challenges.
