Algeria’s Imane Khelif made history at the Paris 2024 Olympics by winning the gold medal in the women’s 66 kg boxing category, despite controversy surrounding her gender. After her victory, Imane declared, “I am a woman, like any other woman.”

The 24-year-old secured the gold in the women’s welterweight division with a commanding 5-0 win over China’s Yang Liu.

Speaking to the news agency AP, the boxer addressed the controversy surrounding her gender, stating, “I am a woman like any other. I was born a woman, and I’ve lived my life as a woman. But there are those who can’t accept my success, and they try to undermine it.”
