Vinesh Phogat Disqualified from Paris 2024 Olympics for Rule Violation:In a heartbreaking twist, Vinesh Phogat has been disqualified from the Paris 2024 Olympics wrestling competition due to being overweight in the women’s 50kg category on the morning of her gold medal bout.

At the Paris Games, each weight category involves two competition days, with medical controls and weigh-ins taking place on the first day and again on the second for those advancing to finals and repechage. Despite her impressive performance throughout the tournament, Phogat was found to be a few grams over the 50kg limit during the final weigh-in.

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) confirmed the disqualification in a statement: “It is with regret that we announce Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification from the women’s 50kg wrestling class. Despite the team’s best efforts, she was slightly over the weight limit this morning. No further comments will be made at this time, and we request that Vinesh’s privacy be respected.”

Phogat, who had qualified for the final by defeating top competitors including Japan’s defending Olympic champion Yui Susaki, Ukraine’s former European champion Oksana Livach, and Cuba’s reigning Pan American Games champion Yusneylis Guzman, was set to face USA’s Sarah Hildebrandt in the final. Instead, Hildebrandt will now compete for gold against Guzman, while Susaki and Livach will vie for bronze.
