The British mark was narrowly edged by Ryan Murphy’s, Nic Fink’s, Gretchen Walsh’s and Torri Huske’s team that clocked in at 3:37.43 minutes at Tokyo Olympics where it was first introduced to an Olympic program.
Meanwhile, the second place went to Zhang Yufei-led China (3:37.55) and Australia was third (3:38.76).
This is only the second world record of these games in swimming pool after Pan Zhanle from China beat men’s 100m freestyle best.The mixed medley teams consist of two women and two men each assigned one of four traditional medley strokes – backstroke, breaststroke butterfly or freestyle.
Xu Jiayu Xu took over from Ryan while Kaylee McKeown started for Australian women who are double champions both in 100 and 200 m freestyles.
Fink followed by Walsh swam stammering laps around it as Huske did with Junxuan and O’Callaghan chasing her before leaving everything behind.
