
Hockey: India Suffers First Defeat at Paris 2024
The Indian men’s hockey team faced their first loss in Pool B at the Paris 2024 Olympics, going down 2-1 to Belgium, the reigning Olympic champions.
India initially took the lead with a goal from forward Abhishek in the 18th minute. However, Belgium staged a comeback in the second half with goals from Thibeau Stockbroekx (33’) and John-John Dohmen (44’).
This defeat marked India’s first in Pool B, following two wins and a draw in their previous matches. The Tokyo 2020 bronze medallists had previously defeated New Zealand 3-2 and Ireland 2-0, and drawn 1-1 with Argentina.
Belgium continued their winning streak, having earlier secured victories over Ireland (2-0), New Zealand (2-1), and Australia (6-2).
Both teams have already ensured their spots in the men’s hockey quarter-finals by finishing in the top four of the group.
