
Indian athlete Priyanka Goswami finished 41st in the women’s 20km race walk at the Paris 2024 Olympics, held on Thursday at the Trocadero. The 28-year-old recorded a time of 1:39:55 in her second Olympic appearance, marking a challenging race for her.
Goswami, who was the sole Indian competitor in this event, struggled to replicate her earlier success. At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, she was leading the 20km race walk at the halfway point but ultimately finished 17th. Her best performance came at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, where she made history by becoming the first Indian woman to win a medal in the 10,000m race walk, securing silver.
In the Paris 2024 event, Yang Jiayu of China claimed the gold with a season-best time of 1:25:54. Spain’s Maria Perez took silver with a season-best 1:26:19, while Australia’s Jemima Montag earned bronze with an Oceania record of 1:26:25.
