Indian badminton star Lakshya Sen defeated Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie 21-18, 21-12 in the men’s singles Group L match at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Sen, unseeded at these Summer Games, overcame the third-seeded Christie in 50 minutes at the La Chapelle Arena on Wednesday to advance to the round of 16.

Despite Christie, the reigning All England champion, starting strong and leading 8-2 in the first game, the 22-year-old Sen responded with high intensity to win the opener. Sen continued his momentum in the second game to secure the match.

With this victory, Sen finished atop Group L with two wins from two matches. He could potentially face fellow Indian HS Prannoy, an Asian Games bronze medallist, in the next round.

The pre-quarterfinals are set to begin on Thursday, August 1.

Match Result: Lakshya Sen (IND) defeated Jonatan Christie (INA) 21-18, 21-12 in the men’s singles Group L match, advancing to the round of 16.
